School Nurse
There have been recent changes in the School Nursing system and we now have access to a school nursing team, their role is provided by the NHS and they comes into school to do the Year R checks for height, weight, sight and hearing on any child that is 5 years old.
Requests for a referral to them can be made by either a parents or teacher with concerns about a child’s development i.e. wetting/soiling, hearing/vision concerns or on-going health issues that are non-urgent i.e. headlice, hygiene, dietary issues.
Home Language Support
Sometimes a child joins school and English is not their first language, in this instance we may be able to offer support in the form of a Home Language Support assistant. This is dependent on the home language spoken and the availability of a member of the Home Language Support team who can speak that language. We currently have a Polish Home Language Support assistant that comes into school once a week and she is also able to assist parents with communications from school or at appointments such as Parents Evening and Attendance meetings if requested.
