Glenfield Infant School

together we are brilliant

Education Welfare Officer & Pupil & Family Support Officer

EDUCATION WELFARE OFFICER

Each half-term we have an attendance audit in school between the Headteacher, Pupil & Family Support Officer (Mrs Spake) and the Attendance Administrator (Mrs Oldbury). At this audit we look at the attendance of all pupils, but especially those whose attendance is under 90%. We try a number of strategies to improve attendance with those families, however, if there is no improvement we may make a referral to April Webb our Education Welfare Officer at Southampton City Council. If a referral is made there may be a number of interventions, which will involve the Education Welfare Office. The Education Welfare Office are also responsible for issuing fixed penalty notices at the request of the school.

PUPIL & FAMILY SUPPORT OFFICER

Mrs Spake is our Pupil & Family Support Officer, she works every morning in school.

Here she introduces herself and explains her role at Glenfield.

Hello, my name is Justine Spake and my role within school is Pupil and Parent Support. I will be working with both children and parents within school. I am able to support in several areas from helping children with attendance and emotional well-being so that they are able to access their learning fully, to helping parents with parenting support and referring if necessary to services and support within the city. I am in school every day from 8.15am until midday and you can contact me through the school office. For families who may be experiencing financial difficulties I am able to issue food vouchers through Southampton City Mission. Prior to joining Glenfield I worked in a large Primary School for sixteen years, working with families and vulnerable children.

Every term I hold a coffee morning which is a drop in so that you come and talk to me with any issues I can help you with. Look out on the dates for your diary page on this website for upcoming 'Glenfield Support Cafe' dates. I look forward to meeting you.

Please get in touch if you need to.
